August 17, 2nd hour (12:30-1:30). Discussion for newcomers and all interested in Quaker worship, discernment, and values.

Quakers believe we can all experience God or Spirit* directly—we can center into silence during worship and listen for God. We believe this guidance is available to us at all times and that our lives are transformed through this experience. From this source, we may be led to share vocal ministry during worship, we are guided in collective discernment, and we discern leadings for sharing gifts within our meeting and in the wider world.

For those new to Friends, all of this may sound different from what we’ve heard or experienced in other religious traditions. We are beginning a new participatory series to help demystify Friends’ faith and practices. For our first session, Sunday, Aug 17, during 2nd hour (12:30-1:30), we will use Ben Pink Dandelion’s short pamphlet Celebrating the Quaker Way as a jumping off point for sharing amongst ourselves about the experience of worship and discernment. All are welcome, especially those new to Friends. The pamphlet is available from the library or can be ordered as an electronic copy ($3). (It is a companion to Pink Dandelion's Living the Quaker Way, also available in our library.) Please come whether or not you have been able to read the pamphlet in advance. The sessions are offered through our spirit and Witness Committee and facilitated by Mary and Karen. If you are unable to attend due to a time conflict, please contact us as we will be scheduling the session again in the future.
