Aug. 16, 11 am-4 pm, Fundraiser for The Permagardens Foundation (TPF), 1422 Navellier St., El Cerrito

The Permagardens Foundation (TPF) connects with communities facing malnutrition and environmental challenges and offers them a proven method, called permagardens, to grow abundant nutritious food in small spaces at home year round. They support trainers who are indigenous to their training areas (Rwanda, Kenya, India, Uganda, and expanding!) and who train around 25 families at a time. 80% of our trainees are women. Among other supplies, they provide two fruit trees per family which provide vitamins as well as add to families’ long term food security.

At almost no cost, this effort supports malnourished children and communities in learning a way to grow their own food successfully, in their own backyards--despite climate change, safely redirecting flood waters, restoring damaged soil, and thriving even through the long droughts now become normal.

0 % of Peter Otiende’s school children were malnourished 18 months after he began training their families in permagardens. Before that, student malnutrition had been 96%

5 X the yield of a regular garden is what you can expect from a proper permagarden. This ensures even the families who have limited space can grow abundant food.
