April 26, at 12:30 slideshow presentation “Those Who Stayed: A Vietnam Diary”
Claudia Krich will be sharing a slideshow presentation with us for second hour , April 26, at 12:30. In early 1973 Claudia Krich was co-director with her husband Keith Brinton, of the American Friends Service Committee program in Vietnam. They ran a large civilian physical rehabilitation center in Quang Ngai, a poor city and province and a center of combat. In spring of 1975 the US supported South Vietnamese government was collapsing rapidly. At the end of April American government officials and almost every American, plus thousands of Vietnamese, fled in a chaotic evacuation. But Claudia and Keith and only a handful of other Americans decided to stay to witness what would happen.
She kept a journal providing a rare personal first-hand account of the government collapse, the frightening last days of the war, and life in peace when it was over. Her journal is the basis of her newly released book, Those Who Stayed: A Vietnam Diary (UVAPress) (claudiakrich.com) You’ll see photos and hear from Claudia about this unique moment in history, fifty years ago. She will have books available for buying and signing.
