Homeland Return Update
Watch Video of Tribal members of the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan speaking about what Homeland return means to them.
The effort to raise funds to support returning the Woolman land to the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe has been met with great success. At this point over 50 Friends and Friends Meetings from all parts of the US have contributed over $50,000 to the effort. We are positive that there were additional funds contributed anonymously by Quakers. Phase 1 of fundraising raised a total of $1,500,000 by the deadline of April 5th. These funds ensure the transfer of the land. The fundraising effort is now in Phase 2. This will raise an additional $900,000 to put the Tribe on a solid economic footing going forward. Much of these additional funds will go toward land improvements and changes required by Nevada County.
The money and minute contributed by our Meeting early in the effort clearly served to jumpstart the giving from Quakers. It has been beautiful and inspiring to hear positive responses from so many people across the country.
